A Dreamer's Dream

The Dream

You are seated in a Yogic or meditative state, in a glade surrounded by trees within a lush, green forest. A Medicine Man appears before you. Into each of your outstretched hands he places The Moon and a Stick. He later grants you Power Animals in the form of a Panther and an Eagle.

The Interpretation

This dream has a highly Shamanic feel to it. You are sitting in an altered state within your dream and the surrounding trees form a Sacred Circle. The Circle is regularly used to hold the energy raised during prayer, dance, healing or ritual; to name some examples.

The Medicine Man signifies the presence of a higher power or connection to Spirit occurring, he comes to you as a Spirit Guide. In one hand he gives you the Moon; symbol of feminine mystery, magic and creativity, in the other hand he places the Talking Stick.

The suggestion here is that balance is required, a time to talk and a time for solitude.

Native Women would use their monthly bleeds, their Moon Time, as an opportunity to enter the silence. During this time they were not required to undertake household duties, care for the children or perform any tasks or services normally expected of them. They would enter the Dream Lodge and dream their dreams. This time was spent in silence, a space without words, a space in which to create.

The Talking Stick was traditionally used to allow every person a voice, and to ensure that each voice was truly heard. It works on the premise that only the person holding the Stick may speak. Other participants should keep theirs eyes down, focusing only on what is said, until they have finished. The Stick is then either placed down for another to pick up, or passed round clockwise so that all may have their say. The Talking Stick provides the opportunity to discuss without interruption. The lack of eye-contact allows each individual to hear what is said without being drawn in emotionally and permits each person to find their personal truth.

The Medicine Man is suggesting that you may find balance within your life by utilising these gifts. Take time out alone each month; use this time for creative projects, to paint, write, draw or make something. Use this time to meditate, to focus on and dream your dreams. In conversation, employ the Talking Stick, if only in your head. Allow others the opportunity to be heard and allow yourself the clarity of not being drawn in. Find your balance and your voice.

The Panther

A powerful and ancient Totem, the Panther is associated with the Moon and the lunar cycle. It implies that whatever you set out to achieve is possible. The Panther is a solitary soul and spends long periods alone; there is the suggestion here that much strength can be found in the silence, as you stalk and pursue your goals. Pace yourself, balance work and play, your psychic vision is likely to be developing at this time. Trust yourself and your gifts will come. With the Panther comes a heightened sensitivity, an awakening of passion and release from past fears. It is time to reassess the aspects of yourself and your life, that you may have glossed over; the truths you don’t want to hear. It is time to reclaim your power. It is a time for rebirth.

The Eagle
The Eagle represents the union between the sacred and the mundane - the link between Spirit and Earth. A symbol of heroic nobility, vision and healing, the rediscovery of the inner child. It suggests the need to look at things from a new perspective, a willingness to follow the vision and seek the dream. Snatch opportunities that present themselves, use your instincts to know when to hunt and when to wait. You may find yourself drawn to the healing arts or find you have some ability in this area. This is a time of clear vision, a new perspective emerging, a rebirth; resulting in renewed health. The vision is only part of the creative process, it is important to take the opportunities offered, to manifest these visions into reality. It teaches us to lay a solid foundation before taking to the skies.

What an incredible dream to be asked to interpret. And I like the way you've interpreted it too.
